All right, one last time, anybody in the Ann Arbor area playing On The Edge?

Also:

OTE since I"m stuck in a little town called Northfield, cut off from my
normal Roleplaying Group.
Ah well, once I return to school, I'm going to pressure my group
there to start playing OTE. Any suggestions for a good plot to ease a
bunch of White Wolf Vampire players into the World of Al Amarja?

latter as a subject in Monique,s next aging experiment.

The real question is twofold:
a) do you think you can break them out of Vampire completely?
and
b) do you like or dislike Vampire?

If a=no and b=like, you might try running a Vampire game based in Al
Amarja. This depends a great deal on the characters they create, unless
you give them a premise to begin with; say, archons sent to the island to
find out what the local situation is.

Assuming you want to use the OTE system, you'd have to wing the
conversions quite a bit. I'd probably allow the overall Clan as the
primary trait, complete with its abilities and weakness (the flaw is still
seperate), and a basic definition set for each discipline, or allowing
many of the abilities within them, within reason. Secondaries would
encompass improvements to disciplines (perhaps if you have the LARP rules
you could go with their versions) as well as certain prominent skills.
Blood drinking would almost be necessary to regain psychic points, though.

The real shock would be that many of the natives are quite capable of
handling themselves against something as lowly as the Kindred. Wait until
one has a Pharaoh tell them to "stay here until I tell you to leave" in
the middle of the Plaza of Arms, or runs into a certain individual from
_Weather The Cuckoo Likes_... :-)

Hangouts: Generally, it would fall like this, I think...
Ventrue: Arms or Golden Barrio. Malkavian: D'Aubainne Asylum or
Sylvan Pines, if not out wandering Four Points or Great Men. Tremere:
Great Men, probably trying to make deals with Compton. Toreador: Flowers,
maybe some in Science. Brujah: Great Men, Four Points, Flowers, and any
older ones in Science. Lasombra: Arms, Golden, and a few in Justice.
Nosferatu: Generally the catacombs and sewers, but probably a great deal
in Science and terrorizing the Garbage Men over the Brink. Setite: Scylla
and the waterfront generally, and Golden for the more "respectable" ones.
Giovanni: *Definitely* dealing with Compton. Tzimisce could be anywhere.
Ravnos would either congregate in Flowers or just avoid the island like
the plague. Gangrel would roam all over the wilder parts of the island.

I'm getting away from myself, though. Still, if they insist upon Vampire,
you can still win. Anyone want me to continue working this out?

Subject: [The Edge] Vampire->OtE

I found one of my treatments of vampires in the OtE mechanical system
and it seemed appropriate, so ...

===
There are a number of questions involved with translating White Wolf
characters into OVER THE EDGE mechanics; among the first to be
considered is whether or not a faithful conversion is either desired
or necessary. The Storyteller system goes into much needless detail
regarding character capabilities as well as has a highly complex
system of powers which are limited for each Clan to certain
parameters. Under OTE, these restrictions become unnecessary, in
fact, their relaxation can lead to intriguing individual powers that
are more tightly tied to the Embrace of their possessor, in the case
of Vampires, for example.

For a stricter conversion of a Vampire to the OTE framework, a
slight enhancement of the character creation rules should be
invoked: you may buy more Side Traits by accepting more Flaws. This
allows the character to take on additional burden to carry more
powers. The facet of OTE that allows easy transition of Default
Traits, in skills and abilities that anyone should be able to try,
they default to having 2 dice.

Let's look at creating a new Vampire under OTE:

First, start by generating a typical person of the age: Alexandrvs
was born in 1202 AD, in the Langue d'Oc area of France. However, he
has adapted well to modern life, updating his experiences of being a
Bard into a promising career as a guitarist in small clubs. He also
retains a significant degree of `Old World charm,' picking up and
holding a cadre of older, well-heeled woman who keep him
well-supplied with housing and gifts. Over the years he's picked up
a fair amount of adeptness with bare knuckle fighting as well.

His mundane OTE Traits might be rendered as:

Guitarist/Bard, 4 dice (Sign: the 12-string guitar he often has with
him): As a guitarist, Alex is highly respected among the smaller
clubs and venues. His compositions have been picked up by a few
other groups, a fate he doesn't seem terribly upset about.

`Kept Man' Charm, 3 dice (Sign: soft, melodious voice): Alex has
made his way by entrancing older ladies to look out for him and
occasionally give him gifts; he doesn't think of himself as a gigilo
because he never trades for sex, but his smooth tongue has oiled
some rather squeaky wheels.

Bare Knuckle Fighting, 3 dice (Sign: quick motions): The years have
taught Alex a few things about being on the road and making your own
way; when it comes to the occasional barroom brawl or an inflamed
husband, he knows when to connect and when to run.

Flaw: Charming Women: Alex has a penalty die to resist helping or at
least looking good to older women of the genteel upper classes.
He's made his living so long off their appreciation he's loath to
let that go, now.

That covers the basic mundane facts of Alex's life, now we need to
deal with his Embrace into vampiric society. Agood start is the
addition of another, rather major Flaw: Vampire (no reflection in
mirrors, damaged by the sun, all the rest of the standard package).
Since its such a large package of Flaws, Alex is allowed to pick
four dice of Traits to have as post-Embrace acquisitions, with no
single Trait being larger than three dice. With these he should
pick up Traits related to his Clan or Family, or additional skills
he wishes to have learned. The ones he picks follow:

Auspex, 2 dice (Sign: glowing green cat-like eyes when in use): Alex
can, for the cost of one Blood, use his power of Auspex to determine
things about a thing or person; this allows him to see auras,
perceive in low-light, detect disguse, for various targets as
decided by the other players or System Coordinator.

Obscuration, 1 die (Sign: a tendency to blend into crowds): With the
expenditure of one Blood, Alex can seem to fade into the woodwork,
becoming less noticable in crowds or within shadows. Its not so
much invisibility as a tendency to be overlooked, and as such
doesn't affect cameras or electronic devices.

Mind Murmur, 1 die, (Sign: a constant low chanting or whispering in
the head when you get near him): Alex can burn one Blood to attempt
to communicate directly mind to mind with someone, diverted only by
distance or unfamilliarity with the target. The communication is
one-way only and lasts only long enough to transmit a short phrase
or sentence. The resulting roll determines the quality of the
communication.

Since Alex has spent all four dice, he can now consider adding more
Flaws to get more. He decides on accepting one more Flaw not
included in the basic Vampire package:

Flaw: Animal Malaise: Animals near and around Alex will be drowsy,
off their feed, laconic, almost drugged. Milk near where he stays
for any real length will be sour or flavourless, cocks will fail to
crow, etc. This also gives him a penalty die on and dealings with
animals as they will be too drowsy to pay attention to his attempts.

He uses the die so liberated to boost his Mind Murmur Trait to two
dice.

Alex is now mechanically complete, though he lacks several things
that he would require for a truly complete character sheet.

Send them in as hunters after a vampire wich is the least of there
problems as they find out to late.the terms will be familar an so on
hopefully you have played vampire or at least read the books it will
help you use this trap on them.take vamps out and replace humans and the
games are almost the same world so it sould be easy.

Well part of the reason the list is so quiet is that GenCon began
yesterday and I imagine a number of the more vocal participants of this
list (eric and trevor) have gone to the land of Cheeseheads.

Hey,

Well I can only speak for myself. But the main reason I'm quiet, is that
most of the conversations here seem to be about OnTE, whereas I'm more
interested in OTE presently, as I'm missing one important component for
OnTE - other players nearby (heh).

Eric's there, as well as the Atlas guys.

This list always seems to peter out, then get rip-roaring when someone asks
whether or not it's dead. Maybe the Hermetics have been experimenting with
Phoenix magic, or maybe it's that Shadowfist element...
