Folks, though I haven't had a chance to respond, I wanted to say thanks for
all the feedback on the CPC ideas. I'm filing all the suggestions to help in
the book's development. Keep the discussion and suggestions coming!

[it's all snipped]

Two comments regarding the player/GM sections in sourcebooks:

1. I've been playing since '94 with AMPLE opportunity to either read my
GM's books (she's my housemate) or just buy them for myself. I haven't,
not because I have superhuman willpower, nor because my GM has eerie
powers, but because I play the game to explore this world in a
particular way (roleplaying), and reading the source material defeats
that purpose. If other players want to read the material, that's up to
them, though I can't see the point.

2. If this is a real problem, though, perhaps Atlas should publish the
book as material for GMs only, with material they may show players at
their discretion. This would lend itself to providing player
information through faux memos, files, handbook sections, etc., which
are more intriguing and entertaining. As well-written as the Players'
Handbook is, I still prefer the photocopied maps and forms my GM gave
me.

Though I'm having too much fun playing a not-quite-completely-hapless
burger to even consider joining the CPC, I'd like to see the book come
out as it would fit the tone of our game better than Cloaks (I
think...).

In my oppinion, part of the beauty of the main OTE book and of Weather the
Cuckoo Likes is that they work from the source material (Borroughs, Dick
and the likes) to make the game supplement. Choosing a few inspiration
sources to make central to the CPC book would add to the flavor and give
the reader more source material. It also gives the book certain themes to
focus on. I can't say that I can think of any authors/books off hand, but
then again I don't quite know the nature of the CPC.

What do other people think about this? I could see that it might limit the
possibilities, but I think if you choose your sources wisely...

Replying later than never:

Ideally, I'd love to see the two sections in separate volumes, like FASA
used in some of their supplements for Star Trek and Dr. Who. That way,
the players can avoid the temptation to read stuff they shouldn't. Of
course, I realize that this may not be economically feasible.

Also, you might want to consider having "No Man's Land" section(s) in
between, with information the GM might or might not allow the players to
read, as appropriate to his/her campaign [this latter idea swiped from
Deadlands -- used without permission].
