There have been several one-shots at Carleton College that have been pretty
successful (due in large part to the stunning success that OnTE had on
campus and a couple of fantastic facilitators). One was a dinner party of
some of the Bigwigs of Al Amarja. Another was a street festival during one
of the holidays of her Exaltedness' creation. I believe the Bigwig LARP
was debuted at the Con of the North in Minnesota.

One important item is that a Vampire/Werewolf LARP and an OTE LARP would
need entirely different mechanics. All the contests, traits, etc. would
need to just be thrown out, partly because of the freeform nature of OTE,
but mostly because of the need to prevent powermongers (you can't fudge
numbers if there are no numbers...)

The next major difference is that an OTE LARP would be better suited for
pregenerated characters instead of player-created characters, mainly
because all of the weird happenings would have to be kept as things that
the narrators/GMs could reasonably simulate. In the end, this suggests
more of the one-shot deals done at Carleton, and less of the chronicle
style of the World of Darkness.

If you're looking for ways to do something like that, you might want
to check out the Interactive Literature Foundation at http://www.ilfinfo.org
for ways to run such a LARP.

If anyone can come up with a good OTE chronicle LARP, I'd be most
interested.

I don't know. The Tabletop OTE rules are almost compatible with
the LARP vampire rules. I don't think that the mechanics of the Mind's
Eye Theatre LARP (Vampire/Werewolf/Wraith) really fosters powermongering
either. Most of the power-mongering comes from players who see their
characters as little more than a D&D Hack & Slasher out to kill any NPC's
that the GM throws in their way.

Admittedly, an OTE LARP based on the MET rules would have far less
supernatural abilities than a Vampire or Werewolf game. It would have the
players relying more on their characterizations than the supernatural
abilities.

I don't know. I think that this again goes back to the players.
In a Tabletop OTE, the players have the ability to twink out their
characters just as much as they would in a LARP. The only think that you
have to remember is that the characters must be approved by the
Narrator/GM. I don't think that One-Shots give the players enough time to
flesh out the characters. A longer chronicle gives them a chance to
discover new aspects to their characters.

I think that an almost direct translation of the MET rules could
be used. I'll try to write something up this weekend and post them. It
shouldn't be that bad.

I've found that a little bit of Lorenna McKennit, Dire Straits, and
the X-Files soundtrack (by Mark Snow) has added good effect to
my campaign.
