This is all the MECCG info from ICE's release schedule through May of 1998. Take special note at the bottom for Middle-earth: the Balrog. This and subsequent expansions will allow players to play the roles of non-wizard, non-ringwraith characters such as the Balrog, Elrond, perhaps Aragorn or Frodo as well. I'll try to find more info on these.

ICE ST #3060 / Middle-earth: The White Handª Booster Display / $117.00 / 1-55806-344-7

Not for the Dark Lord, not for the Free Peoples-For Yourself !!!

This is an expansion set of over 120 cards for the Middle-earth Collectible Card Game. It is fully compatible with both Middle-earth: The Wizardsª and Middle-earth: The Lidless Eyeª. In fact, Middle-earth: The White hand focuses on a corrupted Wizard player using resources from both The Wizards and The Lidless Eye. In the Lord of the Rings, Saruman was a corrupted Wizard.

A corrupted Wizard can pick and choose the good and evil resources he will try to utilize-he will use any means to achieve his ends. However, he can only exert his influence and control over the weaker heroes and minions-the more powerful characters can sense his greed and weaknesses.

When corrupted, each of the five Wizards is driven by a different obsession. These obsessions are reflected in each corrupted Wizard's abilities and goals.

Each booster pack contains: 2 rare cards, 4 uncommon cards, and 6 common cards. Individual booster price is $3.25 each.

March New Releases

ST #3070 / MECCG Challenge Decksª / $119.50 / 1-55806-359-5

Series: Middle-earth Collectible Card Gameª (MECCGª)

Each MECCG Challenge Deck display contains 10 different pre-designed decks ready for competitive or tournament play. The tuckboxes feature windows for art icons so that customers will be able to select which of the 10 decks they want (if not all!). These decks allow the customer to enjoy playing a tuned MECCG deck without having to construct it. This product is the natural "next step" for new players wanting to pursue MECCG beyond the Middle-earth: The Wizardsª 2-Player Starter Set. Experienced players will want the Challenge Deck series since many important cards will be provided with errata. Additionally, they are designed for the Challenge Deck tournament format (very similar to the Sealed Deck format), whereby each player buys his or her own Challenge Deck for a tournament.

Each fixed deck contains 110 cards, a rules summary, and suggestions on how to play the deck. Except for a pair of dice, a deck provides everything needed for fun and competitive games for one player-including sites, hazards, resources, characters, and a sideboard. Cards were chosen from the pool of all MECCG releases through the Middle-earth: The White Handª expansion. Each deck features a different personality-one of 5 different Wizards or 5 different Ringwraiths-and 3 rare cards from the MECCG series. Of these rare cards, 2 are unique, 1 is non-unique (giving a mild impetus for a player to buy multiples of that deck), but none trade on the common market for over $10. For example, there are no Nazgžl hazards and no The One Ring cards. A majority of the most useful and interesting cards from MECCG have been included in these decks. The Challenge Decks give players access to a rich pool of cards should supplies from the other expansions be unavailable.

No new MECCG cards are introduced in the Challenge Deck series. Each display of 10 decks will include an insert for the retailer to display that explains each of the 10 deck themes.

It is comprised of three major sections. Firstly, there is a strategy guide which provides insight into deck design and play focusing on cards from MEAS. This section also features actual tournament ready decks. Secondly, there is black and white high resolution reproduction of each card from MEAS. Finally, there is a section of featured card topics. May New Releases

ICE ST #3080 / Middle-earth: The Balrogª / $117.00 / 1-55806-354-4

Gandalf just got lucky-this Balrog is ready to rumble!

This is an expansion set of over 100 cards for the Middle-earth Collectible Card Game. While it is fully compatible with both Middle-earth: The Wizards and Middle-earth: The Lidless Eye, Middle-earth: The Balrog focuses on a player using resources from The Lidless Eye.

The Balrog is supremely confident of his own immense personal power. After all, just like Sauron, he was one of Morgoth's chief lieutenants. The Balrog tends to rely on brute force and direct confrontation rather than more subtle approaches often used by Ringwraiths and Wizards. His goals are basic and simple-accumlate power and destroy his enemies. If he can do this, he can be come a mover and shaker in Middle-earth-a factor to which both the Dark Lord and the Free Peoples will be forced react.
